Ludwig Kaiser made AAA history on Sunday, September 13, becoming the first German and the first European-born wrestler to win the AAA Mega Championship.
Wrestling as El Grande Americano, Kaiser defeated Dominik Mysterio in the main event of Triplemanía 34 Night 2 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. The No Disqualification match featured interference from Liv Morgan, JD McDonagh, Omos, Rayo Americano, and Bravo Americano.
Down the stretch, Kaiser dodged a Frog Splash and connected with a Flying Headbutt. With the original referee down, Rey Mysterio came out and made the three-count, ending Dominik’s reign that began on September 12, 2025.
The El Grande Americano character was originally created for Chad Gable. After Gable suffered an injury in 2025, Kaiser stepped into the role and completely transformed it.
On May 30, the two finally met at AAA Noche de Los Grandes. Kaiser defeated the “Original” El Grande Americano in a Mask vs. Mask match, forcing Gable to unmask and officially leaving only one version of the character.
Since the AAA Mega Championship was created in 2007, no previous champion had been born in Europe. Before Kaiser’s win, the title had changed hands 23 times among 14 different champions. His victory marks the 24th reign. He’s the 15th different champion in the title’s history.
Kaiser was born in Pinneberg, Germany, though WWE bills him from Hamburg.
