Sami Zayn had an extremely short reign as Undisputed WWE Champion. After winning the title at Night of Champions on June 27, the Canadian lost the championship to CM Punk on Monday Night Raw this week in Chicago.
With that, Zayn’s reign ended after just nine days, placing him in an unfavorable category when it comes to the title. Zayn now has the shortest reign since 2020, when The Miz won the championship and held it for only eight days.
As we previously reported, Zayn was originally scheduled to defend the title against Cody Rhodes, who had earned the opportunity by defeating Jey Uso on SmackDown. However, Cody was attacked by Gunther backstage, opening the door for CM Punk to step in as his replacement.
In the end, Punk defeated Zayn in just over 20 minutes, capturing the Undisputed WWE Championship in front of his hometown crowd.
Despite the notable title win, Zayn’s reign may end up being remembered more for its length than for the championship victory itself.
