Add as a preferred source on Google CM Punk is a WWE world champion once again. On Monday’s episode of Raw from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, the “Best in the World” defeated Sami Zayn to win the Undisputed WWE Championship.
Zayn was originally scheduled to defend the title against Cody Rhodes, who had earned the opportunity by defeating Jey Uso on SmackDown. Sami had won the title at Night of Champions by defeating Rhodes and Gunther.
However, the match underwent a major change early in Raw. Gunther attacked Rhodes backstage, powerbombing him onto a table and throwing him into a car, taking him out of the match.
Despite the issue, Adam Pearce kept his promise to deliver an Undisputed WWE Championship defense for the Chicago crowd. In the main event, Zayn came to the ring still champion, until CM Punk’s music hit.
In the closing moments of the match, Zayn went for the Helluva Kick, but Punk avoided it, hit Zayn with his own finisher, and followed up with the GTS for the pinfall victory.
With the loss, Zayn’s reign comes to an end just days after his win at Night of Champions.
