Jake Hager is still dealing with health issues following a serious injury to his left eye in a Power Slap match. His fiancee, Patricia Blackburn, provided an update on his treatment.

Hager had to undergo another surgery after doctors found a problem that they couldn’t see until the blood in the eye started to clear.

“As the blood in Jake Hager’s eye began to clear, doctors discovered in his weekly follow-up that his retina was detached,” Slap News wrote. “He underwent urgent surgery to reattach it, which doctors said went better than expected.”

Before that surgery, Blackburn told Slap News in an interview that his visits to the doctor were “really promising.” That was good news for his recovery.

As for a potential return to Power Slap, Blackburn said:

“The expectation of him returning to compete, that decision is going to be based on his recovery and what the doctors say.”

Hager has been out of action since losing to Johnny Magna by TKO on September 17 at Power Slap 23 in Lubbock, Texas. He needed emergency surgery after the match.

Dana White called the injury one of the worst he has seen in UFC or Power Slap. “We’re sending him to a specialist down in Miami,” White said later at a Dana White’s Contender Series press conference.

Hager, 44, is under contract with Power Slap for six matches. He is officially 1-2, and all three of those matches took place this year.

There are still three matches left on his contract, but Blackburn left the decision on any return to the doctors in charge of his recovery.
