Add as a preferred source on Google Je’Von Evans didn’t watch CM Punk’s win over Sami Zayn from backstage on the latest episode of WWE Raw. The “Young OG” confirmed he decided to head into the crowd and watch the match as a fan instead.
The match took place on the July 6 show at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Cody Rhodes was originally scheduled to challenge Zayn for the Undisputed WWE Championship, but was pulled from the match after being attacked by Gunther.
Punk stepped in as a surprise replacement and ended up winning the title.
Evans commented on what it felt like to witness that moment up close:
“The energy was so high, I couldn’t go and stay in the back to watch it. I had to go out there and actually be a fan. Sometimes we have to be fans, that really helps us out.”
The loss ended Zayn’s title reign just nine days after he won the belt at Night of Champions.
As for Evans, after defeating Grayson Waller on this week’s WWE Main Event, he’ll take part in a Gauntlet Match on the July 13 episode of Raw, with a shot at Penta’s Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam on the line.
