Jon Moxley and Jay White both punched their tickets to the next round of the AEW Continental Challenge Cup. On Wednesday’s Dynamite from Las Vegas, each man picked up a first-round victory.
White faced David Finlay in a back-and-forth contest. Down the stretch, Finlay went for a Brainbuster, but the Switchblade countered into a Blade Runner to pick up the win.
Moxley closed out Dynamite against “Jungle” Jack Perry in what was their first-ever singles match. Moxley entered with his back against the wall, as a loss would have ended his reign as AEW Continental Champion.
Perry came dangerously close when he locked in the Snare Trap, but Moxley managed to escape. Moments later, Moxley cinched in the Bulldog Choke, leaving Perry unable to continue and forcing a referee stoppage.
With the wins, Moxley and White join Orange Cassidy, Claudio Castagnoli, and Eddie Kingston in the next round. Matchups have yet to be determined, as the Continental Challenge Cup uses a random draw after each round.
The semifinals are set for the August 26 Dynamite in Glasgow. The final will take place at All In: London on August 30 at Wembley Stadium, with the winner claiming both the Continental Cup and the AEW Continental Championship.
