Roman Reigns is expected to reach a major milestone at WWE SummerSlam, where he will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins.
The match between the former Shield stablemates is confirmed for the premium live event, which will take place on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
If that placement is confirmed, Reigns is expected to main event SummerSlam for the sixth time in his career, moving past John Cena and taking sole possession of second place among the wrestlers who have closed WWE’s biggest event of the summer the most times.
The record remains with Brock Lesnar, who has headlined the show nine times. Reigns, meanwhile, will now move closer to narrowing that gap in the coming years, especially while he continues to hold a central role in WWE.
The stat also stands out because of Reigns’ track record at the event. In singles matches at SummerSlam, the current World Heavyweight Champion has never been defeated.
Among his most important wins are victories over Randy Orton, Brock Lesnar, John Cena, and Jey Uso. The only SummerSlam loss involving Reigns came in 2017, in a Fatal 4-Way Match won by Lesnar that also featured Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman.
The situation also carries added weight because of his opponent this time. Rollins holds the head-to-head edge over Reigns, with five wins, four losses, and one draw. Their last match took place at Royal Rumble 2022, when Rollins won by disqualification, but Reigns retained the Universal Championship.
