Drew McIntyre’s WWE return got a notable update on Monday, but his television comeback isn’t imminent.
PWInsider Elite is reporting that McIntyre is back in the United States after wrapping up the outside commitments that kept him away over the past several months, including film projects and other WWE-related work.
That said, there are no active creative discussions at this point about when or how he’ll be brought back to television.
McIntyre has been off WWE programming since WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lost to Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match. That remains his last WWE match to date.
While away from the ring, McIntyre leaned further into his acting career. In addition to the Highlander reboot, he took part in filming The Last Druid, a Russell Crowe-led film. On August 5, Crowe revealed that shooting in Spain was nearing completion after production began in May.
McIntyre is also part of the first microdrama produced through WWE’s partnership with ReelShort. The series was officially announced on July 14 and will also feature Jacob Fatu and Joe Hendry.
With McIntyre back stateside, the biggest scheduling hurdle appears to have been cleared. His actual return, though, hinges on WWE’s creative team putting together a storyline and setting a date.
