AJ Lee has been off WWE television since WrestleMania 42, but all signs point to her second run with the company being far from over.
According to Fightful Select, sources close to the situation believe AJ Lee still has more to do in WWE. As of now, though, there is no set date for her return and no creative plans in place.
AJ’s name came back into the conversation recently after Nikki Bella and Brie Bella turned on Paige at SummerSlam on August 1. The storyline naturally calls back to 2015, when AJ and Paige defeated the Bella Twins at WrestleMania 31.
Members of WWE’s creative team, however, have said they were unaware of any plans to bring AJ Lee into the feud. The talents involved had not been told about that possibility either, even before Brie Bella’s injury.
Brie suffered a scapula injury during the SummerSlam match and is expected to be sidelined for approximately three to six months. WWE is moving forward with the Nikki Bella and Paige rivalry in the meantime.
AJ’s absence was actually already in the works. Back in June, WrestleVotes reported that her return would not be happening anytime soon. Her last match took place on April 18, when she dropped the Women’s Intercontinental Championship to Becky Lynch at WrestleMania 42.
That same night, AJ made it clear she was not treating the loss as a permanent goodbye.
