On Tuesday’s NXT, WWE announced how Grayson Waller’s next NXT Championship challenger will be determined, with a match set for next week.
Tony D’Angelo, Mason Rook, Saquon Shugars, EK Prosper, Cruz Montana, and Keanu Carver will compete in a Six-Man Tag Team Match. The three members of the winning team will advance to a Triple Threat Match to determine who earns a shot at Waller’s title.
The scramble for a title shot started early on Tuesday’s show. Shugars and Prosper approached General Manager Robert Stone to request an WWE NXT Championship opportunity, and Carver made the same pitch shortly after. Montana also demanded a shot later in the night.
It all built to the closing segment, where Waller came out to celebrate his NXT Heatwave title win. D’Angelo, Montana, Shugars, Prosper, Rook, and Carver all hit the ring and argued over who should face him.
Carver suggested the Six-Man Tag Team Match, with the winners advancing to a Triple Threat. The match was set, and Waller left the ring and looked on as all six broke into a brawl.
Waller won the NXT Championship at Heatwave, defeating Tony D’Angelo, Zilla Fatu, and Cruz Montana in a Fatal 4-Way Match.
Next week will mark the first step toward Waller’s first title defense.
