MJF once again called out the ongoing war between AEW and WWE fans on social media, arguing that preferring one company over the other doesn’t mean you need to tear down the competition.
Speaking on Richard Deitsch’s Sports Media Podcast, MJF said fans would be better off spending their energy promoting what they love about their preferred company rather than churning out content designed to trash the other one.
“If you like AEW more than WWE, and there are a lot of people that feel that way, that doesn’t mean that you have to shit on WWE, right? You don’t need to make think pieces online about why WWE sucks. Make think pieces online about why AEW is better, right? Whatever those logical reasons are, right? Whether it’s because you get more bang for your buck with PPVs, or because our matches are better, or because our rivalries are better, or because MJF is better looking than any top guy in the other promotion. There’s so many different things, right? But that doesn’t mean that you have to attack the other side. Just put your side over.”
This isn’t the first time MJF has spoken out against fan tribalism. In January, during an interview with Rolling Stone Australia, he said the rivalry playing out online doesn’t necessarily reflect the actual relationship between talent in both companies, adding that there isn’t significant animosity between the two locker rooms.
In March, MJF also pointed out that he grew up watching WWE and considers it a good thing that a legitimate alternative now exists, because competition pushes talent on both sides to raise their game.
That said, MJF has continued to publicly champion AEW as the superior product. The former world champion is set to compete at All In on August 30 at Wembley Stadium, entering the Casino Gauntlet Match at number two. The winner will earn a future shot at the AEW World Championship.
