Will Ospreay has once again addressed why he chose AEW over WWE, and this time made it clear that the decision went beyond simply wanting to remain in England.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Ariel Helwani Show, Ospreay confirmed that WWE made him an offer as his run with NJPW was winding down.
The deal, however, would have required him to relocate to the United States, which he had no interest in doing.
Asked whether he would have gone with WWE if he could have stayed in England, Ospreay pointed to another sticking point.
“I do respect it, I really do, but I don’t like the way it’s filmed. I think it’s very minimalistic.
Ospreay said he prefers matches built around more offense, physicality, and varied sequences, while acknowledging that WWE is able to get big reactions with a simpler approach. Comparing the two promotions directly, he put it simply: “I prefer what we do.”
He also emphasized the creative freedom he enjoys in AEW. Ospreay said he’s given a long leash with his promos and isn’t required to work off a full script, something he views as essential to being himself on camera.
This isn’t the first time Ospreay has drawn this distinction. Back in 2025, the British star said he wasn’t a fan of WWE’s in-ring style or presentation, while still expressing respect for the roster and acknowledging the company’s commercial success.
Ospreay officially signed with AEW at Full Gear 2023 and started working full-time in March 2024. Around that same period, he and Triple H publicly traded shots.
