Netflix VP Says Platform Rarely Gets Involved with WWE on Blood or Profanity

Netflix rarely gets involved with WWE over the use of blood or profanity on its programming. That’s according to Gabe Spitzer, Netflix’s Vice President of Global Live Sports and Entertainment.

Speaking on Sports Media with Richard Deitsch, Spitzer was asked whether Netflix has conversations with WWE when content crosses certain lines. He said:

“Not often. Obviously, there’s ratings standards that anyone has to adhere to. We’re Netflix, so we try to be a little looser on that.”

Spitzer said the conversations between Netflix and WWE happen more frequently in other areas, such as venue selection and early promotion of big RAW episodes. Netflix, for instance, asks WWE to share its biggest matches three to five weeks in advance so the platform can promote them.

The topic gained attention after some recent instances of censorship on the broadcast. On the August 31 RAW, The Usos’ bloodied faces were blurred during an attack by Royce Keys, Bronco Nima and Lucien Price, while profanity from Jacob Fatu was also cut from the broadcast.

WWE later posted uncensored images of the attack, while the version that aired on RAW remained edited.

RAW moved to Netflix on January 6, 2025 and has been the show’s exclusive home in the United States since then. The deal also brought other WWE programming and premium live events to the platform in several international markets.
