Oba Femi won King of the Ring at Night of Champions by defeating Jey Uso, earning the right to challenge a world champion at SummerSlam.

However, the path for “The Ruler” changed quickly on this week’s Monday Night RAW, when Brock Lesnar returned, attacked him, and accepted another match between the two at SummerSlam. Lesnar then raised the stakes by announcing that the bout will take place inside Hell in a Cell.

Adam Pearce questioned Femi about the possibility of putting his title shot on hold. The King of the Ring winner’s response made it clear that he intends to settle his story with Lesnar first.

“The title is always going to be there. The championships are not going anywhere. I’ll take that when I want it. … It needs to happen. This needs to end and I will be the one to put an end to it.”

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, WWE is reportedly not ruling out crowning Femi, but rather delaying that moment. The idea would be to build the Nigerian star more patiently, keeping him as a dominant force until a possible World Heavyweight Championship match against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 43.

With that, SummerSlam already has two major directions set. Reigns will defend the World Heavyweight Championship against Seth Rollins, while Femi and Lesnar will have the third match in their rivalry. The series between the two is tied 1-1, following Femi’s win at WrestleMania 42 and Lesnar’s victory at Clash in Italy.

In other words, the opportunity Femi earned by winning King of the Ring is still alive, but WWE appears to see WrestleMania as the stronger stage to turn Oba Femi into a world champion.
