Oba Femi appears to have put his WWE SummerSlam world title shot on hold, at least for now.
At Night of Champions last Saturday in Riyadh, Femi defeated Jey Uso to win the King of the Ring, earning the right to challenge a world champion at the August event.
With Sami Zayn as Undisputed WWE Champion and Roman Reigns as World Heavyweight Champion, the expectation was that Femi would announce his choice on this Monday’s Raw.
However, the opening segment changed the direction of the story. Brock Lesnar interrupted Femi, appeared alongside Paul Heyman, and attacked the tournament winner. Femi then challenged Lesnar to a match at SummerSlam, while The Beast Incarnate accepted on one condition: that it be a Hell in a Cell match.
Backstage, Adam Pearce tried to confirm whether Femi was really giving up his title match for now. Femi made it clear that he is only delaying it.
With that, Lesnar vs. Femi becomes one of the key matches for SummerSlam, which will take place over two nights on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
The rivalry between the two dates back to before WrestleMania 42, where Femi defeated Lesnar in his debut on WWE’s biggest stage. Lesnar also won the rematch at Clash in Italy, leaving the rivalry open for a third chapter.
