Oba Femi has shared his thoughts on overpowered characters in wrestling, saying he has no interest in portrayals that lack any real vulnerability. “The Ruler” believes that kind of booking makes it harder for fans to invest in a performer.
Speaking with ABC 33/40, Femi explained that he prioritizes showing personality and emotion, even as WWE presents him as one of the roster’s most physically dominant forces:
“I think [not being afraid to show emotion] stems from my disdain of characters who are too strong. I’ve never liked them.
“I think if you’re too strong and you have no weaknesses and you’re just all that, then nobody cares. If you can do all things, then when you do something, well, you can do all things. Who cares?
“I’m not afraid to show personality and be a human being. Even though you’re super human, you’re still human within all that. That’s how I think about that.”
The comments come as WWE continues positioning Femi as one of the company’s premier rising stars. At SummerSlam, he defeated Brock Lesnar in a Hell in a Cell match and later received public praise from his opponent, who called him the future.
His next major test comes on September 6, when he faces Bron Breakker at Sunday Night’s Main Event at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, marking their first singles match.
