WWE is catching criticism on social media for the finish of Oba Femi vs. Bron Breakker. The highly anticipated match ended in a disqualification at Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
WWE had promoted the match as a battle for the future of the company. Neither man took a pinfall or submission loss, though. Femi was declared the winner after Bronson Reed returned and hit him from behind with a steel chair.
The decision drew complaints from some fans on X. Some argued WWE chose to protect both men instead of giving the match a definitive winner, while others questioned how Femi was used after being presented as a dominant force in recent months.
Another complaint was the post-match attack. Reed and Breakker kept beating down Femi with several Tsunamis and Spears until Adam Pearce and other WWE officials broke it up. For some of the fans who criticized the segment, it took several Vision members to put Femi down, which ended up weakening Breakker’s presentation as one of the top names of the new generation.
The result also kept Femi from taking a clean loss while he’s on the rise. He beat Brock Lesnar inside Hell in a Cell at SummerSlam on August 1.
Reed had been off WWE programming since February. His return at Sunday Night’s Main Event put him back alongside The Vision and, after the attack in Atlanta, left Femi squarely in the stable’s sights.
