Sami Zayn vs. Finn Bálor is currently planned to open Night 2 of WWE SummerSlam, according to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, putting a match with major stakes for Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk at the top of the card.
Night 2 takes place Sunday, August 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and the winner of the opener becomes the new No. 1 contender to the title Punk still holds.
Punk retained on Night 1, beating Cody Rhodes after Randy Orton made a surprise return and hit the American Nightmare with an RKO.
Bálor earned his way into the match by winning a Fatal 4-Way over Trick Williams, Royce Keys and Damian Priest on the July 24 SmackDown.
Zayn got his spot on the strength of his run as champion. He won the title from Cody Rhodes in a match that also included Gunther at Night of Champions on June 27, only for the reign to end nine days later when Punk beat him on Raw in Chicago.
The two traded words in a heated exchange on the go-home SmackDown, a segment that ended with Gunther attacking both men until Nick Aldis came out to break it up.
