Add as a preferred source on Google WWE has settled on the opener for the first night of SummerSlam this Saturday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, and the women are going on first.
Liv Morgan will defend the Women’s World Championship against IYO SKY to kick off the show.
SKY earned the shot by beating Morgan in the Queen of the Ring final at Night of Champions on June 27, then picked Liv on the spot as the champion she wanted at SummerSlam.
It’s Morgan’s first televised defense since she took the title off Stephanie Vaquer at WrestleMania 42. She’s past 100 days with the belt, but her only defenses to this point came at untelevised house shows on WWE’s European tour, which has been a sore spot with fans for months.
The two are 1-1 in singles matches. Morgan retained over SKY at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 14, 2024, and SKY evened it up in the Queen of the Ring final.
Triple H name-dropped the match on ESPN’s First Take as the one that might steal the show over the whole weekend. Going on first is a vote of confidence in both of them on a card that also has Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi inside Hell in a Cell.
If SKY wins, it’s her third world title in WWE. Morgan is 2-0 at SummerSlam and looking to keep that record clean.
