Paige, who is feuding with Nikki Bella on WWE SmackDown, is in Orlando, Florida, hours before tonight’s special Wednesday episode of NXT.
PWInsider reported that WWE sources confirmed Paige was specifically brought in by the company. But there has been no word on why she is in town.
That’s all the more interesting because Kelani Jordan will defend the NXT Women’s Championship on the same show against an opponent WWE has yet to reveal.
At Saturday’s NXT Halloween Havoc, Jordan defeated Wren Sinclair in her second title defense. After that, Robert Stone, the NXT General Manager, told her she would have another match on Wednesday against a mystery opponent.
But PWInsider emphasized that it couldn’t confirm if Paige being there is related to Jordan’s match. That doesn’t mean Paige will be Jordan’s opponent, but it’s a possibility.
Before this, Iyo Sky was the name rumored most often. On the last episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez named Sky as Jordan’s likely opponent.
NXT was moved to Wednesday due to The CW’s coverage of the U.S. midterm elections and airs at 8 p.m. ET from the Performance Center, head-to-head with the Blood & Guts episode of AEW Dynamite.
The show will feature CM Punk challenging Grayson Waller for the NXT Championship and appearances by John Cena and Cody Rhodes.
Paige was the first-ever NXT Women’s Champion. She won the title back in 2013, in the early days of NXT as WWE’s developmental brand.
