Paul Wight will remain with AEW, putting an end to any questions about his future with Tony Khan’s company.
According to Fightful Select, Wight’s contract was set to expire earlier this year. However, the former Big Show reportedly agreed to a new deal and is already being treated as someone firmly under contract, though the length of the agreement has not been revealed.
Wight arrived in AEW in February 2021, when he signed a long-term contract to work not only in the ring, but also as a commentator, ambassador, and mentor for younger talent. At the time, Tony Khan noted that he had a lot to offer both inside and outside the ring.
Even so, his work as a wrestler has been very limited. His last match took place in 2024 on the Jericho Cruise, where he teamed with Chris Jericho and Mike Bailey against the Don Callis Family.
Recently, Wight kept the idea of an in-ring return alive. In an interview with Under The Mat, he named Kenny Omega as someone he would like to wrestle or team with, while also pointing to Darby Allin as a possible ideal opponent for a heel feud.
Wight has also been going through a major physical transformation. The veteran recently said he has lost about 144 pounds since joining AEW and is targeting an even lower weight as he prepares for All In: London, scheduled for August 30 at Wembley Stadium.
