Penta is still WWE Intercontinental Champion after another successful title defense on this week’s Monday Night RAW in Columbus, Ohio.
The champion faced Je’Von Evans in a very fast-paced match featuring several high-flying sequences and high-impact spots. In the closing stretch, Penta countered an OG Cutter attempt, hit a Backstabber, and followed up with a Mexican Destroyer to retain the title.
Despite the strong crowd reaction, not everyone was happy with the pace of the match. Former WCW wrestler Disco Inferno took to social media to criticize how Penta and Evans sold the offense during the bout.
“Wouldn’t hurt to sell some of those moves.”

The comment quickly sparked debate among fans, largely because it touched on one of the most common discussions in modern wrestling: the balance between pace, impact, and the need to properly sell moves inside the ring.
The night also shook up the Intercontinental Championship picture. Backstage, Penta spoke with Rey Mysterio, AAA’s new General Manager, and made it clear that he wanted to put the title on the line against the WWE Hall of Famer.
Later in the show, Rey defeated Rusev with a quick pinfall to become Penta’s new challenger. After the match, Rusev and Ethan Page attacked the veteran until Dragon Lee came out to make the save.
One detail that stood out was that Evans received his opportunity without having to win a qualifying match. Rey, on the other hand, had to get past Rusev to officially enter the title picture.

It remains to be seen whether WWE will use that difference to create tension involving Evans, Penta, and Mysterio in the coming weeks on RAW.
