Rey Mysterio, the current AAA General Manager, made several major announcements during the promotion’s latest broadcast, further strengthening its connection with WWE.

The biggest one involves the possible arrival of a former WWE World Champion who has never wrestled for the Mexican promotion. Mysterio said negotiations are far along, but the deal has not been finalized.

“We are very close to bringing in a former WWE World Champion who has never wrestled here in AAA, and honestly, I’m very excited.”

The WWE Hall of Famer also said more information should be revealed next week if the agreement is completed.

Mysterio also confirmed that AAA is in talks with the General Managers of RAW, SmackDown, and NXT to allow Rey Fenix to defend the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship across all three WWE brands.

Another key note is that an AAA title defense is already being planned for NXT, though the match has not been officially announced.

For next week, however, the main attraction is already set. Lola Vice will defend the NXT Women’s Championship against La Hiedra in the AAA on Fox main event, marking the title’s first defense on Mexican soil.

Vice and La Hiedra had already been crossing paths on AAA programming. Recently, the NXT champion and Mr. Iguana defended the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship against La Hiedra and Joaquin Wilde.

Mysterio was named AAA General Manager in May after an announcement by Marisela Peña during the promotion’s programming. Since then, the legendary wrestler’s role has been focused on expanding AAA’s presence within WWE’s structure.
