On Tuesday, June 30, Zayn posted a photo of himself sitting next to the title with a cup of coffee in hand, along with a short message for Rhodes.
“Happy birthday to my friend Cody Rhodes.”
The joke carries extra weight given the current situation. Cody turns 41 on Tuesday, just days after losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Zayn in a Triple Threat Match also involving Gunther at Night of Champions in Riyadh.
That night, Zayn captured his first world title in WWE, ending Rhodes’ reign and beginning the most important stretch of his main roster career.
With that, the relationship between the two has gained a new chapter outside the ring. Rhodes still has clear reasons to pursue a rematch for the Undisputed WWE Championship.
