WWE dealt with a highly unusual incident Saturday night in Stamford, Connecticut, involving the massive American flag installed on top of its corporate headquarters.

According to News 12 Connecticut, firefighters were called shortly after 8 p.m. ET to 707 Washington Blvd., WWE’s official headquarters address, after the flag came loose from the building during heavy rain and struck nearby power lines.

The impact caused the flag and wires to catch fire, sending sparks and flames into the air in videos that quickly circulated on social media. The fire, however, was brought under control quickly by firefighters.

The situation also caused a power outage for roughly 5,000 Eversource customers. According to News 12, around 3,000 had service restored after 20 minutes, while crews worked overnight to restore power to the remaining affected homes.

The flag in question was not small. In 2023, WWE announced that it measured 3,040 square feet, at 76 feet wide and 40 feet tall, making it one of the largest American flags in the country.

The incident happened during a night of strong storms in Connecticut. The National Weather Service had issued alerts for parts of the state, with possible wind gusts reaching 75 mph, along with frequent lightning.

As of now, WWE has not issued a public statement on the incident. The company’s Stamford headquarters remains based at the complex officially opened in recent years after WWE moved out of the former Titan Towers.
