Tony Khan believes AEW may be drawing the largest audience in the company’s history, even though the public television numbers only capture part of that audience.
During an appearance on the Power Players with Brian Sozzi podcast, the AEW president explained that TBS’s numbers don’t include viewers watching Dynamite on HBO Max, where the weekly shows began simulcasting in January 2025.
“Two years ago, we weren’t streaming on HBO Max yet. So the viewership now, the true viewership is actually much higher because not only do we have the TBS viewers, but also we have streaming viewership. So in reality, this is the hottest and most viewers we’ve had in a long time, if [not] ever. And it feels like the excitement around AEW today is at an all-time high.”
The comments came after the July 15 episode of Dynamite drew 786,000 viewers on TBS, the highest audience of 2026 and the best mark in two years. The show also posted a 0.15 rating in the 18-49 demographic, tying for second among cable programs that night.
The numbers mark a 21% increase over the July 2025 average. Still, Khan’s claim can’t be independently verified, since HBO Max’s weekly numbers aren’t made public.
On traditional television, Dynamite topped 1 million viewers multiple times between 2021 and 2023.
The current stretch also coincides with AEW’s strongest financial period. In May, Khan said the company’s revenue was at the highest level in its history, though he did not confirm whether AEW is turning a profit.
AEW will hold Redemption on July 26 at the Bell Centre in Montreal before heading to All In, set for August 30 at Wembley Stadium in London.
