Tony Khan said AEW has faced major hurdles in putting together this year’s Forbidden Door card, mainly due to work visa issues.

During the pay-per-view’s media call, Khan said the situation has become a “massive challenge” for the company. Gabe Kidd, Mark Davis, Hechicero, Komander, and The Beast Mortos are among the names currently affected.

This is not a completely new issue. Komander and Mortos had already been away from AEW and ROH shows in the United States because of visa-related problems, which also forced changes to the company’s recent plans.

In a recent interview with Q93 Radio, Khan had already pointed to logistics as one of the biggest challenges surrounding Forbidden Door. He noted that securing visas for international wrestlers and coordinating plans with other promotions are part of the process.

Forbidden Door is set for Sunday, June 28, at SAP Center in San Jose, California. This year’s show will feature talent from AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and STARDOM, continuing the event’s concept of bringing wrestlers from multiple promotions onto the same card.

Despite those issues, AEW has put together a loaded lineup for the pay-per-view. One of the top matches will be a 6-on-6 Steel Cage Match between MJF’s team and Mark Briscoe’s team. If Briscoe’s side wins, he will earn a shot at the AEW World Championship.
