Top AAA Star Nearing Return to WWE

La Catalina is back on WWE NXT’s radar. The current AAA star is expected at the Performance Center in Orlando this week, fueling speculation about a potential appearance on the brand’s programming.

According to PWInsider’s Mike Johnson, the Chilean is expected at the facility, though there is no confirmation at this point that she will appear on NXT.

A return would carry some weight, as Catalina previously spent time in WWE from 2019 to 2021. She made it to the main roster under the name Carolina, teaming with Sin Cara against Andrade and Zelina Vega, before heading back to NXT and working as Katrina Cortez.

After leaving CMLL on her own terms in April, Catalina began a new run under the WWE umbrella by debuting in AAA on 4/11. In her debut, she interrupted Flammer’s celebration and immediately inserted herself into the AAA Reina de Reinas Championship picture.

Last night on 8/8, Catalina finally got her shot at the title in a Triple Threat against Flammer and Lady Shani, but the champion retained.

WWE has already announced La Catalina for the AAA show on 8/30 in Edinburg, Texas. That event takes place in the same building and directly before NXT Heatwave, further connecting the two rosters.

Whether her trip to the Performance Center is strictly for training or a sign that WWE is gearing up for Catalina’s return to NXT television after five years remains to be seen.
