Will Ospreay believes his most recent match with Kenny Omega might have been the last between the two.
Ospreay defeated Omega in the main event of AEW All In on August 30 at Wembley Stadium in London, winning the AEW World Championship. In the closing stretch, Ospreay kicked out after taking the One-Winged Angel, the high point of the match.
In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Ospreay pointed out how significant it was that Omega let him survive the move.
“Kenny allowing me to kick out One Winged Angel… The significance and the important behind that move can’t be understated. He’s protecting that move for 14 years.”
The history of the One-Winged Angel helps explain the weight of the moment. Before Ospreay, Kota Ibushi had been the only wrestler to get a clean kickout after taking Omega’s finisher, a feat that dates back to 2012.
Ospreay then indicated that their match at All In may have definitively closed the book on his history with Omega:
“I don’t think we will ever have another match, I think that’s it.”
After the match, Omega handed the AEW World Championship to Ospreay, and the two embraced in the ring.
