WWE has locked in Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker and Trick Williams vs. Sami Zayn as the featured bouts for the opening hour of Backlash this Saturday, May 9 at 6 PM ET.
The approach mirrors the format used at WrestleMania 42, where part of the premium live event airs on linear television before shifting to ESPN’s paid platform, Unlimited. Internationally, the show will stream on Netflix, with the event set to take place at the Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Rollins and Breakker head into their clash following multiple run-ins on RAW this week in Omaha, where tensions escalated after Breakker’s return at WrestleMania 42 saw him attack Rollins and cost him his match against Gunther.
Meanwhile, Trick puts the United States Championship on the line against Sami Zayn in a WrestleMania 42 rematch, with the rivalry turning more personal through recent segments involving Lil Yachty and the Gingerbread Man, both used to taunt Zayn in recent weeks.
The rest of the Backlash card features Roman Reigns vs. Jacob Fatu for the World Heavyweight Championship, IYO SKY vs. Asuka, and Danhausen teaming with a mystery partner against The Miz and Kit Wilson. John Cena is also scheduled to appear, where he will reveal what has been advertised as a “historic announcement.”
