WWE is reportedly dealing with growing backstage frustration over the current WWE Tag Team Championship scene on Friday Night SmackDown.
According to WRKD Wrestling, the issue is mainly tied to a lack of variety and competitiveness around the titles, which are currently held by Damian Priest and R-Truth. On WWE’s official website, the team is listed at more than 90 days into its title reign.
The complaint does not appear to be coming out of nowhere. On the latest SmackDown, Priest and Truth once again defended the titles against members of MFT, this time Talla Tonga and Tama Tonga, retaining after a mistake by Solo Sikoa.
The contrast with Monday Night RAW also stands out. For this Monday’s show in London, WWE announced a World Tag Team Championship defense between Bron Breakker and Austin Theory and the Street Profits, giving the red brand’s division a fresh title match in the final stretch before Night of Champions.

On SmackDown, meanwhile, names such as Fraxiom, The Miz and Kit Wilson, along with other occasional pairings, do not appear to have been positioned consistently in the title picture in recent weeks.
So far, WWE has not announced a WWE Tag Team Championship defense for Night of Champions, which will take place next Saturday, June 27, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
It remains to be seen whether that internal frustration will lead WWE to change direction with the division in the coming weeks, or whether Priest and Truth will remain tied directly to the MFT fallout on SmackDown.
