WWE had to scrap a special plan involving Jalen Brunson and Danhausen for Saturday Night’s Main Event, set for July 18 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, the company had looked into getting Brunson physically involved with Danhausen in some capacity during the show. That idea was scrapped, though, after the point guard underwent surgery on his left wrist.

Brunson had the procedure this week, and he’s expected to resume basketball activities later this summer. The Knicks star played through the injury down the stretch of the season and closed out the NBA Finals averaging 32.6 points, earning Finals MVP honors after leading the franchise to its first title since 1973.

Despite that, WWE still hopes Brunson will be at Madison Square Garden, even if only for an appearance with no physical contact.

Danhausen will face JD McDonagh at the event, marking his first match at the World’s Most Famous Arena. His rivalry with The Judgment Day includes stealing Dominik Mysterio’s money, electrocuting McDonagh, allegedly cursing Liv Morgan, and destroying Danhausen’s lab, along with stealing his Knicks jersey.

Saturday Night’s Main Event will mark the special’s return to New York City for the first time since 2007.
