WWE Has No Plans to “Americanize” AAA

WWE‘s purchase of AAA raised questions about whether the Mexican promotion’s identity would change. The deal, which WWE struck in partnership with Fillip, was announced in April 2025 and closed that August.

In a recent interview on Bajo la Piel, Dorian Roldán addressed those concerns head-on. He said WWE made it clear from the start of negotiations that it has no plans to turn AAA into an American product.

“We don’t want the spirit of Mexican lucha libre to be lost.”

Roldán explained that the idea is to make AAA‘s Mexican identity the main thing that sets the promotion apart, keeping it a product made in Mexico but one with global reach.

The Undertaker and Jeremy Borash are part of AAA’s creative team. In the interview, Roldán revealed that he is also directly involved in the creative process and is responsible for judging whether the ideas are truly Mexican at their core.

WWE’s push to grow AAA has produced significant results. In August 2025, Triplemanía XXXIII drew more than 4.3 million views in its first 24 hours and broke AAA’s gate and merchandise records.

This past July, WWE and Mattel also announced a global line of AAA action figures slated for 2027, with a focus on the masks, characters and tradition of Mexican lucha libre.
