CM Punk, who has been away from WWE programming since the Monday Night RAW after WrestleMania 42, has just been announced for a major public appearance.
During the latest SmackDown, WWE confirmed that the “Best in the World” will appear at Fanatics Fest NYC, which will take place from July 16 to July 19 at the Javits Center in New York City.
Punk’s appearance is set for Sunday, July 19, the final day of the event. Roman Reigns, who defeated Punk in the main event of WrestleMania 42 Night Two to win the World Heavyweight Championship, is also confirmed for Fanatics Fest.
The announcement stands out mainly because it comes amid heavy speculation about Punk’s future in WWE. In recent days, rumors surfaced about possible backstage issues, though that version was later denied.
As we previously reported here at Wrestling Noticias, WWE’s current plan is for Punk to return soon, but as a member of the SmackDown roster. The idea would be to place him in a rivalry with Cody Rhodes, the current Undisputed WWE Champion.
Despite those plans, there is a possibility that Punk could return on the July 6 episode of RAW in Chicago, his hometown, before later moving to the blue brand.
