Jey Uso once again became the target of heavy backlash on social media after advancing in the King of the Ring tournament on this week’s Friday Night SmackDown.
On the June 12 show, Uso defeated LA Knight, Finn Bálor, and Royce Keys in a Fatal 4-Way Match in the opening round of the tournament. The finish included interference from Solo Sikoa, who hit Knight with a Samoan Spike before Keys landed a spinebuster, setting up Jey’s Uso Splash for the win.
The decision did not sit well with part of the audience. As previously reported by Wrestling Noticias, WWE’s official YouTube video reached 39.6 thousand dislikes compared to 10.2 thousand likes.
On his Instagram Story, Jey responded directly to the criticism:
“Man, y’all love me.”
The reaction was brief, but enough to make it clear that Uso does not appear bothered by the backlash. A large portion of the negative comments questioned the continuation of his push, especially with LA Knight and Finn Bálor also involved in the match.
WWE, meanwhile, has already confirmed the updated tournament bracket. Jey will face Je’Von Evans in the semifinal, while Oba Femi will take on Dominik Mysterio on the other side of the bracket.
The King of the Ring final will take place at Night of Champions. The winner will receive a world title opportunity at SummerSlam, and Jey has already made it clear that he intends to challenge Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship if he wins the tournament.
