Add as a preferred source on Google Brock Lesnar was reportedly the one pushing for his Hell in a Cell match with Oba Femi to close Night 1 of WWE SummerSlam.
PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that the belief among those he spoke with after the show is that Lesnar himself lobbied to go on last.
The call raised eyebrows because CM Punk’s Undisputed WWE Title defense against Cody Rhodes went on in the semi-main event spot. WWE instead sent the crowd home with Femi beating Lesnar to take the trilogy 2-1.
Femi went over Lesnar at WrestleMania 42 before Lesnar got the win back at Clash in Italy.
After the match, Lesnar headed toward the back with Paul Heyman, then turned around and returned to the ring, where he hugged Femi, raised his arm and called him the future of WWE while making it clear he considers himself the past.
Minneapolis carries some personal history for Lesnar as well. He was a standout at the University of Minnesota, going 55-3 and winning the NCAA heavyweight title in 2000, and he is set to be inducted into the school’s M Club Hall of Fame on 10/2.
