WWE SummerSlam 2026 is expected to move forward as scheduled at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis despite recent issues with the venue’s roof.
The event will take place on August 1 and 2, marking the first time WWE will hold a stadium show in the city.
In recent days, the Minnesota Star Tribune reported that the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority issued a request for proposals to replace a translucent portion of the roof that accounts for 60% of the structure. The issue was caused by a hailstorm on August 11, 2023, with hailstones as large as 2.5 inches.
Despite the initial concern, an engineering firm determined that the damage does not affect the roof’s structural performance or safety. The MSFA described the steps as preventive and said the stadium remains safe to host events.
“All Minnesotans can be confident that the roof at U.S. Bank Stadium is safe, that proactive steps are in place to preserve its unique environment, and the MSFA’s financial safeguards have protected this public investment.”
According to WrestleVotes, a WWE source said the issue is not expected to impact SummerSlam in any way. The company was also reportedly informed by local officials that the structure is safe.
“Following yesterday’s report from The Minnesota Star Tribune that a large portion of the roof at U.S. Bank Stadium requires replacement due to hail damage sustained in 2023, a WWE source tells us the issue is not expected to impact SummerSlam in any way. We’re told WWE has been informed by city officials that the roof remains structurally safe.”
U.S. Bank Stadium opened in 2016 and has hosted events such as Super Bowl LII and the 2019 NCAA Men’s Final Four. SummerSlam 2026 will also be WWE’s first Premium Live Event in Minneapolis since TLC in 2019.
