Add as a preferred source on Google Bron Breakker came close to one of the biggest wins of his WWE career. The plan called for him to win the 2026 Royal Rumble and capture the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42.
Season 3 of WWE: Unreal, which premiered on Netflix on Tuesday, revealed that Triple H and the creative team discussed the possibility but pulled back out of concern that fans would view the push as “shoving him down fans’ throats.”
The docuseries chronicles the behind-the-scenes decisions and last-minute changes that shaped the Road to WrestleMania 42, with Breakker among the central figures.
The documentary adds a new explanation to a story that had already been partially reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter in February.
The plan came together after Seth Rollins’ injury. First, Breakker would lose to CM Punk on the January 5 episode of Raw. From there, he would win the Royal Rumble on January 31 and ultimately defeat Punk at WrestleMania to capture the title.
The first step played out as planned, with Punk defeating Breakker and retaining the championship on the Raw on Netflix anniversary special.
Until then, reports had indicated the plan was scrapped primarily after WWE put the Undisputed WWE Championship on Drew McIntyre, opening the door for Roman Reigns to take Breakker’s spot in the main event picture.
At the Royal Rumble, Breakker entered at No. 2, was attacked by a masked man, and was eliminated by Oba Femi after just ten seconds. Reigns won the match and went on to defeat Punk at WrestleMania 42.
