Despite OTC’s current strength, a Rollins win would be the more interesting outcome for WWE. Here are three reasons why.
3. Seth Rollins Has Never Lost the World Heavyweight Championship
Rollins’ main case for this opportunity is simple. He was forced to vacate the title in 2025 due to injury, ending his reign without ever losing it.
Since his return, the Visionary has been treating the title as something that still belongs to him. If he’s defeated at SummerSlam, much of that build will lose steam. Winning the title back would close out a story that began when his own stable turned on him and wrote him off television.
2. Rollins Needs to Remain Roman Reigns’ Biggest Problem
According to WWE, Rollins has five wins, four losses and one draw against Reigns in singles matches. Their last meeting came at the 2022 Royal Rumble, when the Tribal Chief lost by disqualification after refusing to release a guillotine choke.
Keeping Rollins as the opponent Reigns has never fully put away gives the rivalry more weight. A win for the challenger would also keep the story from ending on a predictable note and would leave room for one more chapter down the line.
1. Seth Rollins Needs This Win More
Reigns defeated CM Punk at WrestleMania 42 and retained the title against Jacob Fatu at Backlash. His spot as WWE’s top star is completely secure.
Rollins is in a different spot. He lost the title to injury, was betrayed by The Vision, and was even defeated by Bron Breakker at Backlash. Beating Reigns would put the Visionary back on top and give his 2026 rebuild a strong conclusion.
