Rey Fénix will defend the AAA World Cruiserweight Championship against Ricky Saints on next week’s SmackDown in Mexico City.
The match came together in a WWE digital exclusive that aired after Friday’s SmackDown went off the air, with Fénix and Saints exchanging words before it was made official.
Saints has been taunting Fénix in WWE digital exclusives since early August and has also insulted Axiom and Nathan Frazer of Fraxiom while pushing for a title shot.
Fénix goes in as a fighting champion. He won the AAA title earlier this year and has defended it several times on WWE programming.
The September 11 show at Arena CDMX will be WWE’s first SmackDown in Mexico City in 15 years, and the card is loaded with title matches.
CM Punk defends the Undisputed WWE Championship against Sami Zayn, Chelsea Green puts the WWE Women’s Championship on the line against Nia Jax, and the War Raiders defend the AAA World Tag Team Championship against Damian Priest and R-Truth. Paige will also face Nikki Bella.
