JC Mateo, formerly known as Jeff Cobb, is already being linked to a potential AEW return following his recent WWE departure.
His exit came during a fresh round of company cuts, which also saw his tag partner Tonga Loa leave. According to WrestleVotes, AEW is emerging as a legitimate landing spot, with the insider noting Tony Khan’s promotion has interest in the former WWE standout.
“AEW would have interest in Jeff Cobb. He’s worked there before and remains friendly with a lot of their talent.”
Cobb’s ties to AEW go back several years. He appeared in 2020 as an ally of Chris Jericho during the feud with Jon Moxley, later resurfacing at joint AEW and NJPW events, including Forbidden Door.
Before his brief WWE stint, Cobb built a strong résumé in New Japan Pro-Wrestling as a member of United Empire. His run in Japan included three IWGP Tag Team Championship reigns, along with the NEVER Openweight and NJPW World Television titles.
He debuted in WWE at Backlash 2025, assisting Jacob Fatu before joining Solo Sikoa’s faction. The run ultimately lasted less than a year.
