Kenny Omega captured the AEW World Championship this week, putting him back at the top of the promotion, but talk of a possible move to WWE down the road hasn’t gone away among fans. AJ Styles, however, doesn’t see any reason for that to happen.
On a recent episode of The Phenomenally Retro Podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer was asked about Omega’s future and pointed to the Canadian star’s strong ties to Tony Khan’s company.
“Why? Why would you? He’s on the board when it comes to AEW. He’s put his heart and soul. It’s like me. Would we ever see AJ Styles in AEW? Why? I like the company that I work for, despite what everybody else thinks.”
As most fans already know, this past Wednesday, July 8, Omega defeated MJF on the Beach Break episode of AEW Dynamite to win the AEW World Championship for the second time. Had he lost, Omega would never have been able to challenge for the title again.
Beyond being the current world champion, Omega remains an AEW EVP and is under contract with the company through at least 2027. He’s been with AEW since its founding in 2019, when he was introduced as one of the promotion’s executive vice presidents alongside the Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes.
Styles and Omega go way back. The two shared the ring all the way back in 2006 and crossed paths again at NJPW’s New Year Dash in 2016, the night Omega turned on Styles and took over as the leader of Bullet Club.
Back in May, Styles had already said he would have liked to face the Canadian star on a different stage, but admitted that it “will never happen.”
