WWE hadn’t announced any matches for Worlds Collide, but the venue itself may have gotten ahead of them.
The Allstate Arena website began listing four matches for the September 26 Worlds Collide in Rosemont. The advertised card features CM Punk, Rey Mysterio and El Grande Americano vs. Omos, JD McDonagh and Dominik Mysterio, Penta and Rey Fenix vs. Los Perros del Mal, Las Tóxicas vs. Fatal Influence, and Dragon Lee vs. Jack Cartwheel.
The information should still be taken with some caution. WWE’s official page doesn’t list any matches or officially announced participants, and the ticket listing itself notes the card is subject to change.
Punk had already been announced by WWE for the show, so his appearance is confirmed. Putting him in the main event is the most obvious commercial call there is. He’s the biggest local draw on the roster and gives WWE a headliner for its head-to-head with AEW’s All Out, which runs the same night in the Chicago area.
The rest of the card tracks with recent storylines.
Omos beat Rey on Night 1 of Triplemanía 34 and attacked him after the match, while El Grande Americano dethroned Dominik for the AAA Mega Championship two days later. On the following Raw, JD helped Dominik jump Americano and Rey. Punk is the only name without a direct tie to that feud, but his presence gives the match the weight the event needed.
Penta and Fenix vs. Los Perros del Mal has backstory of its own. Penta refused to join the faction in August and was ambushed, kicking off a rivalry that later pulled in Fenix and Dragon Lee.
Dragon Lee and Jack Cartwheel will run it back. Lee won their February meeting.
