Brock Lesnar has confirmed his match against Oba Femi at WWE SummerSlam was the final match of his career.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Aug. 4, The Beast Incarnate revealed he spent the two days after the main event of SummerSlam Night One laid up in bed because of how brutal the Hell in a Cell match was.
“I spent the last two days in bed. I got run over by a Nigerian Nightmare dump truck Saturday night. It’s time. I’m 49, and I still wanna be able to get around and move. But I’m grateful, very grateful, and Oba was great.”
Lesnar also made clear there’s no comeback planned this time.
“I’m here today to do this interview, to let the world and everybody know that I am retired — and I wanted to say a big thank you to everybody. Saturday was a very emotional day for me. Kinda weird cause I did, in my heart — when Oba Femi slammed me at WrestleMania, I was like, ‘I can’t do this again.’ So I was like, ‘I think I’m done.’
But, the business and I still had some fuel in the tank. But Saturday for Brock Lesnar, that’s it. That’s it for me in the squared circle, and for everything else, too.”
The match took place Aug. 1 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Femi won after hitting the Fall From Grace, taking the trilogy two matches to one. Femi had also won at WrestleMania 42, while Lesnar earned his only victory at Clash in Italy on May 31.
Immediately after the match, Lesnar hugged Femi, called him the future of WWE and labeled himself part of the past. Two days later, WWE aired a career retrospective on Monday Night Raw and moved his profile to the Alumni section.
At 49, Lesnar now plans to follow his two sons’ hockey careers, support his daughter Mya in her bid to make the 2028 Olympics, and spend more time hunting and with his family.
The retirement ends a pro wrestling career that began in 2000. Lesnar debuted on WWE’s main roster in 2002 and defeated The Rock at SummerSlam that year to become the youngest world champion in company history at age 25.
In addition to winning 10 world championships in WWE, Lesnar was also the UFC Heavyweight Champion and held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship during his time with NJPW.
