Bryan Danielson said he barely uses social media and typically only checks it when someone at AEW gets into some kind of trouble.
Danielson made the comments on Tuesday’s episode of The Nikki & Brie Show, titled Brie & Bryan: Books, Parenting & Life Offline. He appeared alongside Brie Bella for a conversation that also touched on technology and life away from social media.
“I only get on social media when somebody at the company I work for gets in trouble. I don’t even know. A long time. Even before I retired. Meech was doing my social media. It’s great. I don’t know, really, because I’ve never been deep in the social media game. I can’t even understand why people would want to be on social media. It makes no sense to me.”
Danielson made it clear that he has kept his distance from social media for a long time, going back well before he stepped away from full-time in-ring competition. The Meech he mentioned is Meech Golden, the founder of GoodGold Agency, who manages several figures in pro wrestling, including Danielson.
Danielson also said the way interview comments end up circulating without their full context makes his relationship with social media even more difficult. He said some people have gone as far as questioning him in person about things he had supposedly said, and that he did not even recognize the remarks attributed to him.
Danielson remains with AEW. He returned to the promotion’s commentary desk at All In: London on August 30 after several months away, his first appearance in that role since April.
