Chad Gable believes WWE SummerSlam could be the starting point for his chase for singles gold in the company. The event will take place on August 1 and 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, his hometown.

Speaking in a recent interview with Good Karma Wrestling, Gable talked about wanting to move past being seen as a great tag team wrestler and finally capture a singles title in WWE.

“You know what, man, I’ve been saying for a long time, it’s time for me to get over this hump of being the guy that was a great tag team wrestler and won tag team championships. A big goal of mine has always been winning a singles championship in WWE and being the World Champion. If you’re not striving for the highest goal, I think you should reevaluate yourself and your mindset, because that’s what we’re all here to do. We’re here to be the best. This is a big chance for me to take a step toward that. I think coming off that Mask vs. Mask Match, I have so much momentum as a singles guy, and I could carry that right through the summer. What better place to at least start chasing that ultimate goal of mine than my hometown at one of our biggest events?”

The moment Gable referenced happened at AAA Noche de Los Grandes, where he was defeated by Ludwig Kaiser, who performs as El Grande Americano, in a Mask vs. Mask Match. After the match, Gable removed his mask and revealed his identity to the crowd.

Behind the scenes, the idea of giving Gable a spotlight at SummerSlam reportedly already has internal support. According to Sports Illustrated, several people within WWE are pushing for him to have a significant presence at the event, though no match has been announced so far.

Gable has yet to win a traditional singles title on WWE’s main roster. His run with the company has been defined by tag team title reigns in NXT, RAW, and SmackDown, along with his recent work as part of American Made.
