Chad Gable admitted that he never imagined the El Grande Americano storyline would reach the point it has in WWE and AAA.

Speaking with Good Karma Wrestling, Gable said his injury was one of the major variables that completely changed the direction of the character.

“Not a chance, you know? No way. That’s the best thing, one of the best things I think about wrestling right, is you just never know. You never know what it is that’s gonna land, what it is that the audience is going to latch on to or why really.

“And when you really think about the path that we had to go on to get to that point, it would have never happened if it wasn’t for so many different variables there. Someday I think everyone will become privy to how many there actually were. There’s a lot more than people even know about.

“Something as obvious as my injury right? And me having to go away. If I hadn’t gotten injured, none of this would have taken the route that it did. And it’s just magic. That’s what wrestling is. The story’s not written from the beginning. The ending isn’t determined from the beginning. It’s like we can go a million different directions and sometimes it creates magic.”

The storyline culminated at AAA Noche de Los Grandes on May 30 at Arena Monterrey, where Kaiser defeated Gable in a Mask vs. Mask Match. After the loss, the “Original” El Grande Americano unmasked, revealing himself as Chad Gable.

Since then, Gable has been appearing on WWE programming as part of a redemption arc. On the June 8 episode of RAW, for example, he apologized to Penta and Rey Mysterio before saving Rey from an attack by Rusev and Ethan Page.

Gable also said in the same interview that he is in one of the best creative stretches of his career.
