Chelsea Green is set to miss several weeks of action after suffering an orbital bone fracture, but the injury is not expected to end her freshly-won reign as Interim WWE Women’s Champion.
Per WrestleVotes Radio, via Fightful Select, there’s backstage optimism about Green’s recovery timeline. WWE has no plans to strip her of the title and intends to keep her featured on programming while she’s not cleared to compete.
Green suffered the fracture on the August 7 SmackDown, where she teamed with Tiffany Stratton to challenge Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship. After the show, the champion went to the hospital and confirmed she had broken the orbital bone around her right eye.
Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer reported that the injury occurred during the closing moments of the match, when Green took a shot from Fatal Influence near the corner and her own knee caught her in the head.
The injury came just five days after the biggest moment of Green’s WWE career. At SummerSlam on August 2, she defeated Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Lash Legend, and Tiffany Stratton in a Ladder Match to win her first world championship in WWE.
