WWE Makes Decision on Chelsea Green After Serious Injury

Chelsea Green is expected to continue as Interim WWE Women’s Champion despite suffering a fractured orbital bone, with WWE not looking to strip her of the title at this time.

The injury occurred on the August 7 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, when Green teamed with Tiffany Stratton against WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Fallon Henley and Lainey Reid. Green was taken to the hospital and later confirmed the fracture.

According to WrestleVotes Radio, via Fightful Select, Green is expected to miss several weeks of in-ring action. However, WWE has no plans to pull her from television while she recovers, let alone vacate the title. She is actually expected to appear on tonight’s SmackDown, August 14, though she won’t be wrestling.

Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer echoed that same sentiment from backstage:

“Not confirmed but the feeling is they’re not gonna strip Chelsea of the title.”

Green captured the Interim WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam on August 2, winning a Ladder Match put together after Rhea Ripley went down with an injury requiring surgery. WWE was reportedly very pleased with the social media numbers Green’s title win generated.

Even before the injury, creative had already placed Nia Jax on a collision course with Green. Jax and Lash Legend attacked the champion after her match on last week’s SmackDown, setting up a potential first title defense once Green is cleared to compete.
