Chelsea Green made an interesting remark about LGBTQ+ women in pro wrestling during a recent appearance on Chrissy Chaos, the podcast hosted by comedian Chris Distefano.
Green, the current WWE Women’s Champion, was talking about growing up in Canada and the sports she played before she got into wrestling, including field hockey, lacrosse and curling. When Distefano remarked on the large number of lesbians in field hockey, Green immediately drew a comparison to pro wrestling.
Distefano said, “And field hockey, a lot of lesbians.”
Green replied, “Same with in wrestling. Tons.”
Some social media posts claimed Green had revealed that several women wrestlers have yet to come out publicly, but no such statement appears in the available portion of the interview. Green said only that there are a lot of lesbians in pro wrestling.
Green has publicly supported the LGBTQ+ community in the past. At the 2024 Royal Rumble, she wore ring gear in the colors of the Pride flag. She later explained that she did not want to be just a quiet supporter, citing Sonya Deville and Piper Niven. Niven, who remains on the WWE roster, is openly bisexual.
Deville became the first openly lesbian wrestler in WWE history. WWE itself previously ran a feature on her journey and why her representation matters.
Outside WWE, Anthony Bowens also weighed in on the subject recently. Bowens, who is openly gay, said he has never had any issues related to his sexuality backstage in AEW.
“I felt comfortable the second I stepped foot in with the company.”
